As an independent organisation based in Istanbul which focuses on the production, discourse and presentation of contemporary art and culture halka art project initiated a Residency Programme since its foundation in May 2011.
The program offers research and artistic production facilities for theorists and artists in its operational base located in Kadıköy, a vibrant district and one of the city centres of Istanbul.
The aim of the programme is to provide necessary infrastructure for the selected participant(s) to contact and have interactions with the local artistic and cultural circles, and to provide for the local community the background for mutual connections, cultural confrontation and cooperation possibilities with the residents of halka art project.
The Residency Programme of halka art project starts with Vera KORMAN as its first guest in the Residency from August 20 - September 30, 2011. Along with her artistic research and production, Korman will also give weekly workshops and artist talks during her stay.
The workshop will be developed under the name of Foreigners in the body of art and will focus on the question of the self from the perspective of being a “foreigner”, represented upon the body in the contemporary art.
During the Residency, the artist will also introduce her artwork, in a weekly open talk for the public whose main emphasis will be on the experiences of the body in relation to the self, as an ongoing process of becoming.
Further announcements will be made about the details and time schedule of the artist talks and workshop programme.

The selecting committee decided not to finish the process at the end of July but instead create opportunity to prepare the required material for those who are newly aware of the project and also to benefit from the priviledge of time for evaluating the applications in the best way possible.
