"...But there is also another 'collision (l’avenir)', in which I am more interested. The noun becomes a verb: to collide, to interrupt, to jar, and transforms a fixed event into a confrontation with the Other or the Unknown.“

During his residency stay at halka art project, Assad was interested to work with the term 'collision' in relation to public spheres in contemporary Istanbul.

For this evening he prepared a short input talk on his definition of 'collision (l’avenir)’ in relation to his own artistic practice as well. He will underline his talk with a video excerpt of his own video installation ’Shot / Reverse Shot’ (Jerusalem, Berlin, 2010) and the screening of ’The Negotiation’ (38min., Berlin, 2011) by Azin Feizabadi / Kaya Bekalham.

halka art project welcomes Nadim Assad

Berlin based artist Nadim Assad is the current artist-in-residence of halka art project residency programme. Assad will be in İstanbul from October 11 to November 18, 2011 to investigate questions of the ‘public’ and ‘private’ spheres. His definition of the ‘public’ describes a field of free movement and communication of the common.
In his artistic statement he declares "My artistic work tries to intervene in this contradiction by experimenting with different kinds of re-arrangements, re-enactments, assemblages and combinations of documents. Themes that I am interested in are Urbanity, Migration and Identity, which stem from my own background as a Palestinian, born and raised in Germany and living in a metropolitan city like Berlin. As an artist I use this kind of self-experience as a departure for my work. Art offers me a space in which I can experiment with these topics in a broader way of expression and exploration, what „reality“ is, how it looks like and what further questions it could possibly expand to."
