Berlin based artist Nadim Assad is the current artist-in-residence of halka art project residency programme. Assad will be in İstanbul from October 11 to November 18, 2011 to investigate questions of the ‘public’ and ‘private’ spheres. His definition of the ‘public’ describes a field of free movement and communication of the common.
In his artistic statement he declares "My artistic work tries to intervene in this contradiction by experimenting with different kinds of re-arrangements, re-enactments, assemblages and combinations of documents. Themes that I am interested in are Urbanity, Migration and Identity, which stem from my own background as a Palestinian, born and raised in Germany and living in a metropolitan city like Berlin. As an artist I use this kind of self-experience as a departure for my work. Art offers me a space in which I can experiment with these topics in a broader way of expression and exploration, what „reality“ is, how it looks like and what further questions it could possibly expand to."
